Check the condition of the motorcycle over closely. What is the condition of the drive belt, chain or drive shaft? Are the tires worn or weather checked? Has the bike ever been wrecked? Does it leak oil? Is the muffler or mufflers free of rust? Is the wiring in good shape? Does it start easily and run smoothly?
If the deal likes like a go at this point, ask to take the bike for a test drive. While you are at it, if possible, take it to your mechanic and get a second opinion.

In 1867 Sylvester Howard Roper invented the first machine that some would recognise as a motorbike. Roper, an American, created a machine that had two cylinder steam engine. This early bike was powered by coal.
Some experts insist that having the machine powered in such a way suggests that it can’t really be compared to modern motorcycles.
Many suggest that the first real motorcycle was invented by Gottlieb Daimler. Daimler was, of course, to eventually find rather more fame through his work on cars.
Daimler had been working for some time with Nicolaus August Otto, who was himself an early expert in designing and building engines. Daimler took one of Otto’s engines and attached it to a wooden bicycle frame.
Otto’s four stroke internal combustion engine was a remarkable breakthrough and Daimler’s use of it ensured that in 1885 he produced what many see as having been the first ever motorcycle.
There is often some confusion, with many believing that these machines were invented by the Harley Davidson company.
That company was founded by William Harley, Arthur Davidson and Walter Davidson. Although they did play a key role in the early development of motorcycles, they didn’t start producing the machines until almost twenty years after Daimler had created the first one.
Although Harley Davidsons quickly became known for their speed and performance, the inventors always intended that the bikes should be used for transport purposes.
Today, they remain as one of the great icons of the last century.
It’s amazing to think that the developments of more than 100 years ago led to the production of modern day motorbikes.

As the weather gets cooler, is your motorcycle ready to be put
up for the winter? Even if you plan to ride your bike through
the cold winter months, here are some ideas on winter care. Or,
maybe your have another reason for not riding your bike: travel,
business or family commitments. The good news is that this
shouldn’t take more than a few hours of work to be sure that
your motorcycle will remain in tip-top condition in terms of
looks, mechanical condition and trouble free riding.
First, be sure the fuel system is drained and conditioned. The
best way to do this is to get the level as low as you can, then
add a fuel stabilizer additive. Then run your bike for a few
miles to be sure the additive gets into and through the entire
fuel system. Then, when your ready to ride, simple fill up with
fresh gas and you’re ready to go.
Next be sure and clean you motorcycle thoroughly. Use a good
degreasing agent to get rid of all that grime that collected
over the past several months. Be sure to remember to get the
brakes and suspension systems. Clean out the brake calipers
with a brake cleaner and re-lubricate.
Make sure that your bike is completely dry. If you have
compressed air available, use it.
Next re-lubricate the motorcycle. Be sure to cover the brakes
(calipers and discs) to protect them during this process. Be
sure to get all of the joints and pivots points. Regular chain
lube is usually good enough for moving parts and surfaces.
Finally, the use of a corrosion treatments is recommended (not
for brakes).
Use a good wax to coat and polish the surfaces. Again, avoid
the brakes.
Get the tires up and off of the ground. If you have a center
stand, great. If not, invest in a pair of stands to get the
bike up. They will pay for themselves numerous times.
Save yourself the grief of needing a new battery come spring by
using a battery tender. Like getting the tires up, this
investment will pay for itself over and over again.
Finally, invest in a cover for your motorcycle. Make sure it
breathes so condensation won’t occur.
These are just a few ideas to keep your bike in great shape
when not being ridden for an extended period. A small amount of
time and investment will result in a huge time and money savings
later.

on horseback and brandished their swords with the best of them.

Women’s love affair with the motorcycle began with the bicycle
back in the 1800’s. They became hugely popular with women. Susan
B. Anthony once said, “A bicycle has done more for the
emancipation of women more than any other thing in this world”.
When the motorized bicycle was developed in the early 1900’s, it
opened up a whole new realm of adventure for the high-spirited
woman of the day. Many women took to the open road not on
horseback, but on the iron horse. Adventurous women enjoyed many
long distance rides. Some were skilled enough to do stunt riding.
No mean feat, especially on the earlier bikes.
The ride for men and women are uniquely different. A man on his
ride is master of the iron muscle and his testosterone kicks in

They use their lower body and their curves to hug the open road.
It’s a sensual bond between the bike and the woman. She is also
master of the ride but she controls it with more passion and
finesse.
There is something about seeing a woman on a motorcycle that
makes you take notice. You can see the iron muscle being
controlled with femininity. It’s the combination of power and
aesthetics that make it an irresistible combination.
There is nothing like the open road for both men and women. To
experience the freedom and the wind, the sites you see and people
you meet along the way that fuel the spirit and feed the soul.
This experience is something no one can take from you.
